چکیده

f 1 noise caused by microscopic two-level systems (TLS) is known to be very detrimental to the performance of superconducting quantum devices but the nature of these TLS is still poorly understood. Recent experiments with superconducting resonators indicates that interaction between TLS in the oxide at the film-substrate interface is not negligible. Here we present data on the loss and f 1 frequency noise from two different Nb resonators with and without Pt capping and discuss what conclusions can be drawn regarding the properties of TLS in amorphous oxides. We also estimate the concentration and dipole moment of the TLS.

Internal loss of superconducting resonators induced by interacting two-level systems.

In a number of recent experiments with microwave high quality superconducting coplanar waveguide resonators an anomalously weak power dependence of the quality factor has been observed. We argue that this observation implies that the monochromatic radiation does not saturate the two level systems (TLS) located at the interface oxide surfaces of the resonator and suggests the importance of their...

Measurement of loss in superconducting microstrip at millimeter-wave frequencies

We have developed a new technique for accurate measurement of the loss of superconducting microstrips at mm-wave frequencies. In this technique, we optically couple power to slot antenna, which is connected to one port of a hybrid coupler. One of the output ports of the hybrid delivers power to a series of mm-wave microstrip resonators which are capacitively coupled to a feedline followed by an...

M ay 2 01 0 Minimal resonator loss for circuit quantum electrodynamics

In circuit quantum electrodynamics quantum information processing is done by coupling the qubit state to a single photon bound to a superconducting resonator [1]. The lifetime of a single photon with frequency f is defined by: τ = Q/2πf [2], therefore a high resonator quality factor (Q) is needed to maximize the lifetime. Presently used resonators, made from Nb or Al, have quality factors on th...

Transparent amorphous silicon channel waveguides and high-Q resonators using a damascene process.

We demonstrate a damascene process for fabricating amorphous silicon (a-Si), single-mode optical channel waveguides and high-Q racetrack resonators. This process is compatible with thermal budget limitations for a-Si phase stability. It offers improved optical transmission and facilitates hydrogen encapsulation for process integration of a-Si waveguide cores. At 1,550 nm, the average measured t...
